About
Ione (she/her) is interested in the encounter: as a site of identification and resistance, desire and power. The encounter as an unconscious repetition of a past drama, whether historical, cultural, or epigenetic. Her work is oriented towards the possibility of a transformative encounter. An ongoing practice of S/M sexuality is at the heart of her work, thinking in terms of the “scene” and the “ritual.”
Her work is often relational, serial, collaborative, and durational. She works in series -- the surface of the skin is marked and printed onto paper, which gets becomes an installation, then a video. She has worked in the mediums of performance, painting, and installation.
She is one of the co-founders of Veil Machine, an artist collective based in NYC.
Ione graduated from Columbia University in 2015, and is in the process of completing an MFA at California Institute of the Arts.
